- As the founder and owner of Stone’s Throw Winery, Russell Turco has been learning about and enjoying wine for the past 40 years. Turco grew up in a household in which evening meals were accompanied by French and Italian wines. Using the palate he developed from those early experiences, the next 25 years were spent learning to make wine – from grape-stained hands to his well-developed senses of smell and taste. Turco started Stone’s Throw in 1997 after developing long-term relationships with grape growers and winemakers throughout California who were intrigued with Turco’s plan to make fine wine 2,300 miles east of Napa. Turco now owns the Turco Family Vineyards with his wife Lisa in Napa, Sonoma and Lodi, Calif.
